Compare this with "find a job" (425 million) or "new career" (458 million) and you get an idea of where Internet Marketers are directing their efforts.

How do you know which one of those 1.9 billion work from home ideas gives you the best chance of success? Lets face it, you could live until you're five hundred and you still wouldn't have read them all.

These four questions should be answered in order with a score between 1 (minimum) and 5 (maximum). No zeros. Write your answers down and keep them safe.

Not every software is as user-friendly as Windows (you got the joke, right?!), which can be frustrating if you want nothing more than use it immediately. For most complex software products there exist written tutorials that exactly describe how to use them and sometimes even video tutorials that make the product handling even easier. If you've read and watched all tutorials and still cannot manage to use the product, then state this to the creator and you should get that refund.

If you've contacted the product creator and still were not able to get a refund despite some legitimate and acceptable reasons, not all hope is gone. Most marketplaces offer a refund guarantee for products that were sold through them (e. g. Clickbank offers its customers a general refund policy of 8 weeks after the product purchase, for a vendor like PayDotCom you have to contact the credit card processor like Paypal which has a refund policy of 60 days).

It is always suggested to clearly state the reason for your product refund and to keep a friendly communication style. Even if the product is not worth a single penny it doesn't make things easier when you insult the creator. Try to show that you've really tried to use the product in an efficient way, maybe attach some screenshots, include suggestions what could be better, etc. The product creator might loose you as a customer but still can benefit from your experience and will most of the time happily give you the refund.

Whatever you do, please be fair. It's just not right to purchase a product which you badly want and then request a refund to get your money back but still continue to use the product. A business that is easy to set up and maintain will give you confidence and a sense of accomplishment as you complete each simple step in the process.

Let's face it if you enjoyed wasting a lot of time and effort maintaining a home based business you would not be reading this article. This is about freeing you to spend time with your family and doing the things you love, not creating another taskmaster to replace your job! The first two pillars of a solid home based business are necessary for the third to occur.

Pillar #3: It must have a quick return on investment. (ROI)

You can spend months building a home based business but it there is never any real profit generated in a reasonable amount of time many people may get discouraged and give up. What is a reasonable amount of time? I would plan for a time frame on the order of weeks instead of months. Depending on the type of home based business some people have had a decent ROI within days, and unbelievable as it may sound some businesses that deal with affiliate marketing and sales can see profit as early as 15 minutes from startup!

You may be thinking to yourself "that's too simple!" Let me say that within these 3 pillars there is plenty of detail to keep anyone busy. The business that you choose to start should definitely be something that interests you and possibly even something that you already have a measure of experience in doing. Whatever home based business you get involved in make sure that it is propped up by the 3 pillars listed in this article. Do not make the mistake of overcomplicating your efforts or you will see very quickly that you will get bogged down with a lot of needlessly wasted time and effort.

I read a quote once:

How many people wonder through life, without any aim or purpose, just passing the days?  How many people with the best of intentions set a goal and go about trying to achieve it, and just because of an "issue", they give up on the goal, then they fall into the aimless category?
 
How many people are just plain stubborn – like time – just go on and on to achieve their goal but don't because they didn't realise all that was hindering their success was a minor issue that could have been resolved if help had been sought!

To succeed in anything you need to have the right mindset, planning and action are simply not enough.  You need a positive attitude, accept that you will make mistakes, accept that it wont happen by tomorrow and most importantly be willing to listen and learn (ask for help – don't be afraid).

Whatever your goals are, at some point along the way it will involve money – whether your goal is to be the next Bill Gates or Warren Buffet or simply to help the helpless you still need money (via profit or donation).  I've come across a straightforward and simple method of helping to achieve that goal, they are profiting from Internet Marketing.  How many people use the internet now?  It's not small is it? – Lets face its only going to grow with increasing use in emerging markets like China and India (I was in India last year there is hardly any internet use – I felt lost without my buddy "the internet"!

These days, companies are looking for better methods they can relay their messages to potential consumers – so as to reduce advertising costs and increase customer acquisition (and later retention).
There are 3 ways that messages can be relayed at minimal or no cost.
1. Face to Face Direct Marketing – visiting potential customers at their place of residence (check local law to see if this allowed where you reside)
2. Internet Marketing – having even a basic website that has some traffic coming to it – is better than having no website – there is more chance of attracting/retaining customers.
3. Word of Mouth/Email – Have you ever told someone about a product or service that you've had a good experience with?  Whether you do it by telling someone or emailing them, it's a recommendation from a positive experience.
As advertising budgets decrease and competition increase the use of the above methods of marketing are simply put "the way forward".

What about me?  There are many ways for you to market online, you can market other peoples products (be an affiliate).  You could even create your own product or service (maybe you already have one).  The first thing to have a basic website; best of all – you don't need to hire anyone - these techniques can be learnt for little or no cost.

I came across a course that taught me to build my own website – in under a week I learnt what I thought would take at least a year at college.  There are various things on this course that interested me; I'm not going to get into the exact content – the BEST thing for me was that everything was SHOWN to me – step by step.  I'm sure you'll agree – that's the best way for people to learn something new.

If you want to open more doors in terms of potential income and satisfaction then Internet Marketing might just be your ticket!

Online Networking - Online networking, as with offline networking, is very important to your business.  This is when you connect with as many people as possible to learn more and share more about your business.  Many leads can come from networking.  There are several ways to do this online.

Email Discussion Groups: Go to yahoogroups.com and search for appropriate groups.

Message Boards: Be sure and follow the rules for posting and offer your help as much as possible.

Social Sites: Such as MySpace.com, Ryze, Merchant Circle, etc.  These can be great ways to make more contacts and get leads.

Joint Ventures - This is when you enter into an agreement with another online marketer that will benefit both sides.

Ezine Advertising - Advertising your business, product, service, etc. in quality ezines can be well worth the money spent.  There are a few things you can to to help you choose which ezines to advertise in.

Do a search to find ezines that cater to your target market.  For example: if you are advertising kids' books, you don't want to advertise in an ezine about cars.

Once you find several targeted ezines, subscribe to them so you can look them over and see if the publisher is reliable in sending them out.  You can also look over the other ads and make sure the publisher is selective in their advertising.  You can possibly learn what the other readers think of the ezine as well.

Try contacting the publisher to see if they respond to your email.  Ask about testimonials from other advertisers.  Find out how many ads they run per issue and what the costs are.

You could also ask the publisher to do an ad swap to get an idea of what the response is like.  Be selective in your choices and always code your ads so you know which ezines actually deliver.

I was referred to a prospective client recently that had their website redesigned.  They paid $60,000 for a site that really does nothing for them.  It is a simple brochure site that provides visitors nothing and it certainly does nothing to convert traffic into sales.  Since all their budget went to design, they  have no money left over to properly market the site.  Mistake #1, don't pay $60,000 for a branding exercise.

A corporate website is about supporting the business.  The beauty of the Internet is there is no guessing.  You can measure pretty much anything.  What are you trying to accomplish?  Increase traffic? Generate leads?  Increase sales?  If it is yes to one of these questions, then a $60,000 investment should get you  another $600,00 to your bottom-line? Can a brochure site deliver a 80-95% ROI?

Web design is a commodity today.  The cost of design should represent about 25% of your total spend.  Design costs are competitive today, so spending more than you have to should be the last thing you do.  There are excellent open source Content Management Systems (CMS) that give you the power to manage your own content.  The cost of the software is $0 to you. We recommend using either Plone or Joomla.  Both of these platforms provide you with Web 2.0 compliant back-end at low cost for setup and maintenance.

The value in web design is working with companies that can properly market what you do.  To properly market the site, you should be spending 10-12x what you should spend in design.  So, it is possible to get a Web 2.0 website at an affordable cost.  If you are a small company that is spending $4,000-$8,000 on a basic website, you should plan over 12 months to spend an additional $30,000-$80,000 on marketing.  The dollars spent on marketing brings the traffic to the site.  Simple rule, more traffic through the front door means more business.

Unlike other advertising, you can control your spend and measure your ROI pretty quickly.  You can turn your marketing dollars on and off depending on the performance, it is all measurable.

DeFabis Photography is an example of a client that went through the redesign process.  We built a Search Engine Friendly website that allows him to manage content on the site.  Prior to working with us, his website was not listed in the top 100 on Google for the popular keywords.  Since working with us, his visitors and page views have increased.  But most important, he has doubled his bookings from this time last year.  And, he did not spend $60,000 on his web design.

If you need help in evaluating a prospective vendor, here are some question that may help you understand their knowledge:

1. How do capture visitor traffic off the Internet?  Can you track their movement through my site?  If so, how?
2. How do manage pay per click advertising dollars to ensure I am maximizing my spend and not wasting money?
3. How do you measure whether my site is friendly to my users?
4. How many page views would you estimate my site would get to determine the right level of hosting?
5. What things will you need to change on my website?  What things can I change on my own?
6. If I want to change the look, does it require changes to the backend scripting on the site?
7. What will it take to add a new page to match an ad we are running to the new site?  For instance, I want to advertise a special and build a page specific for it, what will it take for us to do this?
8. What do you anticipate the average cost per lead for the website to be?
9. Who owns the source code to the site?

So, think about your objectives.  Think about what you want to accomplish and spend your money according to the results you want to achieve.  A pretty website just does not generate the type of results you should and can get using the Internet.  Don't get mugged for $60,000.  It's bad for your business.

Ebooks do not contribute to cutting down forests, they do not need to be trucked across the country, they do not produce waste, and they are usually a lot less expensive than printed books. Ebooks also have many other advantages. Depending on your ebook reader software, an ebook can be annotated, bookmarked and searched. The latter is especially useful; I often want to go back to a certain quote or paragraph in a book, and electronic search is so much easier than leafing through a printed book.

One of the problems ebooks face is that people do not know how to use them. They are confused by the many different ebook formats or think they need a particular piece of hardware to read them. In fact, the formats are not really a problem. Most computers can read popular ebook formats and ebook reader software is freely available. Hardware is a bit more of an issue. Hardcovers and paperbacks are awfully convenient and they don't need batteries, so a lot of people shy away from reading on a computer screen or spending the money for a dedicated ebook reader.

This is really too bad as ebooks are clearly the way of the future. They just make too much sense. Those who dismiss ebooks are missing out on a great and increasingly attractive alternative to the printed page. Those who are willing to give ebooks a chance are rewarded with lower costs and the ability to carry an entire library on a device of their choice, be that a notebook computer, a Tablet PC, a dedicated ebook reader, a PDA or even a smartphone. And they have access to a potentially much larger variety of books. That's because ebooks make self-publishing easy and lots of authors who don't have a chance of getting picked up by traditional print publishing houses can distribute their books electronically. Best of all, there is no waste and there will never be unsold books that end up on a bargain table or in a landfill.

My advice is to give ebooks a chance. Download a free ebook. Look for sites dedicated to ebooks, especially those with a website design that is appealing. See what format you prefer, and what device you like to read on. But be warned: you may get hooked. Once you get into them, downloading and reading ebooks can become a passion.

Writing articles
Writing the articles themselves is the most time-consuming and the most difficult part of article marketing. For any article marketing campaign to be a success the articles must be of at least a reasonable quality so people will want to publish them. And remember that any articles that are submitted to directories must be unique so there will be a lot of rewriting work involved as well.
If you feel that your talents lie elsewhere, or you simply do not have the time, you will want to hire a freelancer to do the writing for you. Probably the most economical option here is to look on the many freelance websites on the internet. On these, you can post a project and freelance writers will bid on it. There are many writers out there who can do a good job for a good price, you just need to find them.
However, it is important that they can provide good quality even if it costs that little bit more. Paying pittance for poorly written articles will be a waste of your time and money. When posting a project, ask all writers for samples of their work and make sure they agree that copyright on all articles goes to you.
Also remember that these articles will be published in your name, so they need to be of good quality and factually accurate if you wish to build your reputation.
It is best to start off by offering a small amount of work, say 10 articles. From this you will be able to determine if the work is up to scratch and you can choose whether or not to continue using the writer.
Once you have chosen a writer, good communication is key. Make sure your instructions are clear in terms of the articles required, the style of writing and article length. Also, bear in mind that the writer may not have an in depth knowledge of the subject or subjects, so help them out by suggesting sources of information if you can, and answer all queries. Unfortunately, the major search engines can now detect duplicate content so you will need to submit a unique version of each article to each directory. If you send the same version you will only be awarded for one backlink for SEO purposes, no matter how many times the article appears on the internet. Because of this, you may also need the writer to tweak each article for you into different versions. Alternatively, you could try out some article spinning software that will change your articles for you.
Submitting articles
There are freelancers available on freelance websites who will submit articles to directories for you. However, if you are submitting to a large number of directories you are probably best off looking for a reputable service online.
In fact, many article submission services will now also make sure that a different version of an article is submitted to each directory, while others will offer you tools to help you make unique versions to avoid issues with duplicate content.
The other option for submitting to article directories is to buy software that will do it for you. However, the duplicate content issue makes these a less attractive prospect as they are best used for submitting the same article to many directories. Also, you may also have trouble if directories suspect you are using an automated system to submit articles.
Article marketing is not something you should miss out on if you want to generate more traffic on your website. If you can not take care of the ground work yourself, you should look at the possibility of delegating it.

First let me explain article marketing for those that do not know what it is. Lets say your website is about widgets. You write an article on interesting ways people can use widgets.
In the footer of your article there is an author bio section. In the author bio section you place links to your website about widgets.
You submit that article to as many article directories as possible. You can use a service  ISnare.com who for two dollars per article will submit your article to hundreds of article directories.
Once you submit to all of those directories, remember the link in the author bio section, each of those directories is now a one-way inbound link.
Now none of those links is related to widgets, so they are not relative links, but they do still count for link popularity, just not as much as relative links do.
But the second reason that article directories exist is to provide free content to website owners. These website owners can take your article and use it as content for their website as long as they leave the links in the author bio section active and intact.
Article Marketing Doesn't Work. That is exactly what some old-time experienced SEO people are still saying. Yet, one of the clients I wrote articles for went from a link popularity of 1 to a link popularity of 457 in 8 days.
I received an email today from a client I wrote an article for on "Free Credit Repair" 3 days ago. He did a search in Google today for "Free Credit Repair" and the article was in the top 100.
